Minutes of the USNC/URSI  Commission F Business Meeting

June 22, 2004, Monterey, CA

 

1.      The meeting was called to order by Secretary Roger Lang at 17:37 PDT.

2.      Sign-in sheet along with membership contact information was passed out to attendees to update if necessary.

3.      Roger Lang reminded attendees the deadline for abstract submissions for the National URSI meeting in Boulder, January 5-8, 2005 is September 24, 2004. There is also still room for special sessions and Roger strongly urged people to consider chairing joint sessions – possibly with Commissions B and C. 4.      Roger Lang urged academics to encourage students to enter the student paper competition for the APS/URSI meeting in Wash. D.C., with consideration also toward organizing Commission F sessions.

5.      Future URSI meetings through 2008 were listed on the meeting agenda which is attached

6.      General Assembly in New Delhi, India – October, 2005:

a)      Need nominations for URSI awards immediately – deadline for nominations is June 30, 2004. These awards will be presented in New Delhi.

b)      There is also a stipend available for delegates to travel to this meeting.

c)      Again, volunteers for organizing and chairing sessions are needed for this meeting.

7.      Upcoming URSI meeting in Boulder, CO, January 5-8, 2005 – Commission  F will elect a new secretary.  Roger Lang urged members to consider nominees for Secretary of Commission F.

8.      Roger Lang also encouraged attendees to get more students to participate in the student paper competition.  Steve Reising ( reising@ecs.umass.edu ) is the contact person for this competition. 9.      The meeting was adjourned at 18:00 PDT.
